The South Carolina Correctional Association

The South Carolina Correctional Association (SCCA) is a multidisciplinary organization consisting of correctional professionals, individual agencies and organizations involved in all aspects of criminal justice activities. The SCCA was formed in February of 1979, after the Board of Governors of the American Correctional Association instituted a chapter pilot program. This program allowed for dual membership in State Chapters as well as the national organization. The SCCA provides professional development to its members through several workshops and seminars conducted throughout the year and also conducts an annual conference. At these sessions, relevant issues of concern or interest to criminal justice professionals and other interested persons are explored. Members receive quarterly newsletters that provide pertinent information about current events. Association members also participate in a variety of community, social and athletic events that foster open communication and a better understanding by citizens of the issues and challenges being faced by professionals in this field.

The American Correctional Association

Founded in 1870, the American Correctional Association (ACA) is a professional membership association dedicated to the improvement of corrections and the training and development of corrections professionals. With more than 20,000 members, ACA’s membership consists of individuals and organizations involved in all facets of corrections – including adult and juvenile institutions, community corrections, juvenile justice, institutions of higher learning, and probation and parole located in the United States, Canada, and other nations, as well as 69 chapters and affiliates representing states and professional organizations.

The mission of the Association is to exert a positive influence on national correctional policy and to promote the professional development of individuals working in all aspects of the corrections field. Our primary purpose is to be of service to both the field and its members.

The Association provides its members with educational materials, publications, training, seminars, bi-annual conferences, accreditation services, and a variety of other networking opportunities – not to mention Corrections Today magazine, discount programs, and insurance benefits.

The Mission of the South Carolina Correctional Association is:

  • To promote professionalism and personal improvement in its members.
  • To provide information and forums for the exchange of ideas and opinions to those involved or interested in the fields of institutional or community-based corrections.
  • To promote public awareness of the efforts and issues faced by those engaged in the business of adult and juvenile corrections.
  • To stimulate the creation and encourage the involvement of our association and its members in meaningful juvenile and adult crime prevention endeavors; and
  • To provide opportunities for individuals involved in the broad array of state, local, federal, educational and non-governmental entities concerned with the business of institutional or community corrections to collaborate and interact for their individual enrichment, and to benefit the citizens of South Carolina.
